Italia Geniale exhibition was held last November at the Italy Pavilion at Expo Dubai. Design enable. For Expo Dubai and Dubai Fashion Week, ADI and ADI Design Museum, on behalf of the Ministries of Economic Development and Foreign Affairs, showcased the charm and beauty of Italian design. A selection of iconic objects that represent and describe Italians’ extraordinary creative skills. The ability to translate ideas into objects that are aesthetically beautiful, but above all functional, designed and manufactured to improve the quality of life in all its aspects.
The exhibition title ‘Design Enable’ offers a new interpretation of the design object, seen as a means of enhancing everyone’s abilities and skills. It is with this in mind that one of the five thematic areas of the exhibition is entitled “Imagin-able“. Here, the genius of Italian design skilfully uses imagination to create objects that, in turn, stimulate the imagination and the ability to create fantastic worlds. And, where playing takes on a great ethical value and a precise pedagogical commitment, also through experimentation with old and new materials.
This concept and the Italian creative heritage are also represented by Italtrike children’s tricycles and the sustainable design of eolo. This eco-friendly line, designed by Alain Pineau and dedicated to kindergartens and schools, is made of totally recyclable materials, free of welding and paint. Eolo vehicles are designed to encourage movement in total safety, even for small children or those with special needs. The two-seater version is designed to teach the value of sharing and teamwork. This collection is the result of an eco-responsible production process based on a circular economy. 60% of the energy used is provided by in-house solar panels and 95% of the materials come from suppliers operating in an area within 50 km of Italtrike’s headquarters. Moreover, the modular design of these pedal vehicles and the adaptability of the components to different products allows, at the end of the tricycle’s life, all the parts to be reused on other models in the line.
The presence at Expo Dubai confirms how Italtrike’s approach to design has always been strongly oriented towards promoting and strengthening children’s capabilities. This means their innate capacities and all those motor, cognitive, relational, and emotional skills that evolve as they grow. It is also proof of how creativity, innovation and beauty are closely linked and increasingly devotedto building a more sustainable future for everyone.
