The front wheel is equipped with the "freewheel" system that allows children to rest their feet on the pedals when pushed so as to prevent them hurting their legs; as soon as children are independent the wheel can be locked and the pram becomes a classic tricycle, with which they can pedal forward, brake and pedal backwards.
